History

The idea behind FuelStorageDepot originated in the early 2000s, in the industrial surroundings near Europe’s largest port city, Rotterdam. At that time, there was very limited structured information available about independent tank storage assets across key oil trading hubs and ports—let alone a comprehensive global database.

One of the pioneers behind this initiative, Rob Luijendijk, began by collecting and organizing tank storage data in a simple spreadsheet. Through dedication, industry connections, and a pioneering mindset, the database gradually expanded. As the vision grew, so did the team, with new professionals joining to support its development.

By around 2006, the growing database was further commercialized. It initially launched as a basic .NET platform, and soon after evolved into a more advanced and accessible solution. With sufficient data scale and market demand, the platform was successfully introduced on a global level, generating sustainable growth and strong business performance.

In 2014, the platform entered a new phase by collaborating with PJK International, led by Patrick Kulsen. This partnership resulted in a strategic transition of ownership, officially completed in December 2016. The combination of advanced quantitative analysis capabilities and an established global network created a powerful synergy, enhancing the overall value of services and offerings.

Since 2017, operations have continued to evolve with a focus on innovation, accuracy, and global market coverage—strengthening FuelStorageDepot as a trusted name in tank terminal intelligence.
